3-01-07 4:00pm Deputy Elsberry responded to the Boone National Building on a complaint of a marijuana smell, Boone P.D. also responded. Arrested for possession of marijuana was Jordan A. Vinnece 16 of Boone.
3-01-07 7:06pm Deputy Elsberry investigated a two vehicle accident 3.5 miles west of Ames on Highway 30. Jasmine M. Koenig 20 of Boone was following an east bound vehicle operated by Andrey V. Karagayev 25 of Ames who lost control in the white out and went into the ditch, followed by the Koenig vehicle. No injuries were reported, damages were est at $1,500.00 to Koenig's 2000 Chevy Pick-up and $1,200.00 to Karagayev's 1999 Chrysler.
3-01-07 Starting approximately 4:00pm there were several vehicles reported in ditches throughout the County, and cell phone calls were telling of people in some of the vehicles, Deputies began rescuing individuals and taking them to shelters in Boxholm, and Ogden, also motels in Boone. One of team of Deputies were stuck on highway 169 about 1.5 miles north of 30, from 4:30pm until after 10pm the were pulled out by a team of Army National Guard members who were assisted by a team of DOT Plows. Rescue efforts were stopped until Friday morning, and then that was short lived due to white out conditions and extreme high drifts. No travel was recommended throughout the County, County roads were all blocked, Stat Highways 17 169 north and Highway 30 west of Ogden were all closed. Deputies then began rescuing individuals out of vehicle along with emergency management on Saturday morning. The last State Highway to get open in Boone County was Highway 169 north of Highway 30 late afternoon on Saturday March 3rd.
3-02-07 5:58am Boxholm fire Pilot Mound, fire and Ogden fire responded to a House fire at 313 I Ave Pilot Mound, home owned by Rodger Browning received severe damages, the Brownings were taken to a shelter in Pilot Mound. Deputy Dominick responded. No injuries were reported.
3-03-07 7:59pm Sgt Hurley attempted to get a death message to family members in Rural Boone County. Sgt Hurley was unable to get to the residence due to high drifts, notification had to be made by phone.
3-04-07 9:50am Deputy Elsberry investigated a single vehicle accident 1.5 miles North of Boxholm, on Highway 169. Crystal A. McCarville 22 of Ames was north bound when she lost control on the snow covered roadway and rolled her vehicle into the ditch. No injuries were reported. Damages were est. at $1,000.00 to her 1998 Toyota.
3-04-07 1:14pm Deputy Elsberry made a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Mamie in Boone. Driver Donavon Harris 23 of Boone was arrested for driving while license suspended.
3-04-07 3:45pm Sgt Hurley investigated a single vehicle roll-over 4.5 miles South of Boxholm on Highway 169. Eric J. Bertelsen 19 of Polk City was north bound when he lost control on the ice and snow and rolled his vehicle into the ditch. A passengers Alicia Visser 19 of Orange City Iowa, and Elizabeth Auffert 19 of Stanton Iowa were taken to a Carroll County hospital by private vehicles. Damages were est. at $2,000.00 to to a 1996 Chevy Corsica.
3-04-07 8:02pm Sgt Hurley and Deputy Middleton responded to a complaint of a Domestic situation at 749 130th Pilot Mound. Arrested for Domestic abuse was Michael L. Platter 47 of that address.
3-05-07 1:50am Greene County reported that a large grey van that was snow covered was observed leaving a burglary in Rippey. Deputy Middleton responded from the eastern side of Boone County ad came across a grey snow snow covered van in the 1200 block of 270th, the van had Minnesota License plates vehicle was pulled over with assistance of Greene County and Deputy Rohden. Three suspects were located in the vehicle. A hand gun was found in the vehicle. Suspects took into custody and charges are pending with Greene County on Burglary charges. Investigation continuing.
3-05-07 6:17pm Deputy Naeve responded to a Domestic situation in the 800 block of 23rd Street, Boone. Male party decided to leave the residence for the night, no charges at this time.
3-05-07 7:53pm Deputy Middleton responded to a complaint of a vehicle stuck in a snow drift in the 1300 block of 160th, north of Boone, Turned out the vehicle was reported stolen out of Ames. No one around the vehicle and Ames P.D. was notified for their case.
3-05-07 9:13pm Office took a complaint of neighbors disputing over snow removal as one neighbor is claiming the other is putting snow on the others property ditch side, this took place in the 800 block of Leaf Rd, Boone.
3-06-07 4:00pm Deputy Elsberry transported a male juvenile to the Rosedale Shelter in Ames. Was a court order.
3-06-07 4:43pm Deputy Elsberry investigated a single vehicle accident on Highway 30 east bound and T Ave. Vehicle lost control in the Erickson Curves and rolled 4 times. No one was injured. Boone Fire and Ambulance responded. Christopher J. Hagen 20 of St Cloud Minn. was east bound on 30 when he lost control and rolled his vehicle, no injuries were reported. Damages were est. at $8,000.00 to his 2002 Oldsmobile.
3-07-07 9:00am Sheriff Fehr executed a writ of ejectment at 109 1/2 west 2nd, Madrid.
3-07-07 12:55pm A Boone County resident in the Noble Hills subdivision called in a complaint of a man driving a white tree maintenance truck with the Logo All American Arborist, stopped at a residence and was very forceful on his sales pitch to do tree work on the property. If someone stops by to provide services and you do not want them on your property just politely ask them to leave and if they don't call your local Law Enforcement agency.
3-08-09 Update on fatality accident on February 28th on Highway 169 south of Ogden. Lois Stalter 77 of Ogden died in that accident, now her husband Guy Stalter 80 also died of his injuries at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
3-09-07 3:15pm Richard Carter 31 of Dayton reported hitting a turkey at E18 and L Ave. Damages to his windshield were reported to a 1997 Chevrolet Pick-up, no injuries were reported.
3-10-07 1:32am Deputy Pontius had a vehicle on radar at 104 mph on highway 30 west bound, and was able to stop the vehicle at 30 and R Ave. Two intoxicated individuals in the vehicle refused to cooperate with the Deputy, and would not state who the driver was, both were arrested for Interference with official acts a serious misdemeanor. Evidence was collected and County Attorney notified. additional charges are pending. Arrested was Joshua J. Myers 24 of Boone and Derrick J. Dailey 24 of Chicago Illinois.
3-10-07 3:00pm Mail boxes were reported damaged on South Division Street, Boone and on Old Highway 30 just west of the City limits of Boone.
3-10-07 11:03pm Deputies Elsberry and Middleton responded to a Domestic situation in Pilot Mound. Nicole A. Patten 24 of 208 2nd St, Pilot Mound was arrested for Domestic Assault.
3-12-07 11:03am Deputy Pontius responded to a two vehicle accident 1/2 mile West of Ames on West Lincoln way. Doris Womeldorff 82 of McCallsburg Iowa was southbound on Y Ave and failed to stop at the stop sign and broadsided a west bound vehicle operated by Sulaiman M. Naser 18 of Ames. Both drivers received injuries and were taken by ambulance to Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames. Damages were est. at $6,000.00 to Womeldorff's 2001 Buick LaSabre, and $6,000.00 to Naser's 2001 Chrysler. Kelley Fire and Rescue and Ames P.D. assisted at the scene.
3-13-07 4:48am Deputy Rohden responded to 749 130th Pilot Mound on a complaint of possible prowler in the area. Area was checked and nothing located at the time.
3-13-07 11:33am Deputy Pontius and Detective Kendall responded to a complaint of a missing 4 year old from her home in the 2100 block of 207 Place. Search and rescue was dispatched with the report of a creek in the back yard with rushing water. Teh child was located down the roadway by a neighbor. Parents David and Kristine Wong were very happy to be re-united with there 4 year old girl.
3-13-07 5:03pm The Ledges State Park Office reported that the Lower Ledges Park restrooms had been vandalized. They will get estimates to the amount of damages on March 14th.
3-13-07 10:10pm Chuck Pepples of 1255 216th Dr. Boone reported that his mail box had just been blown up and witnessed a vehicle west bound on old 30 toward Ogden. Vehicle was stopped and two Juveniles were arrested by Deputy Elsberry for criminal mischief. They had used fireworks M-90's to blow up the mail box. Arrested for Criminal Mischief 4th degree were Eric Elliott 16 of Boone and Blake Campbell 16 of Boone.
3-14-07 2:36am Deputy Dominick responded to a complaint of a vehicle that had gone into the ditch on Highway 30 by the west Lincoln way exit. Driver Stephen B. Griffin 27 of Ames was arrested for O.W.I. 1st Offense. There was only minor damages reported to his 2001 GMC Jimmy.
3-15-07 4:56pm Deputy Pontius responded to an incomplete 911 from 1087 320th Woodward, child was playing with the phone.
3-15-07 5:38pm Jeremy Bogue 25 of Boone, turned himself into the Sheriff's Office on a Boone County warrant, bond $7,500.00 for probation revocation.
3-16-07 6:43am Brandon Gannon 34 of Boone, turned himself into the Sheriff's Office on a warrant for possession of marijuana, bond $5,000.00.
3-16-07 6:57pm Woodward Police Dept. arrested a Marvin D. Nisley 31 of Winterset on a Boone County warrant for probation revocation, original charge possession of marijuana.
3-16-07 7:19pm Deputy Godzicki responded to a reckless driver call on Highway 30, vehicle was stopped in the 1000 block of highway 30 driver Ryan M. Sundine 22 of Boone was charged with careless driving.
3-17-07 1:30am Deputy Godzicki responded to the Story County line to pick-up a prisoner Peggy Yost 43 of Ames, arrested by Ames P.D. on a Boone County Warrant, failure to appear driving while lic suspended, bond $450.00.
3-17-07 1:55am Deputy Middleton investigated a car deer accident 2 miles west of Boone on Highway 30. James R. Smoley 40 of Fort Dodge struck a deer, causing $1,200.00 in damages to his 1998 GMC. No injuries were reported.
3-17-07 2:16am Boone P.D. arrested a Mike Platter 47 of Boone, on a a violation of a no contact order filed by the Sheriff's Office last week.
3-17-07 5:22am Sgt Hurley arrested a Bradley Stolte 34 of Boone for O.W.I. 2nd Offense. on Industrial Rd, Boone.
3-17-07 10:29am Sgt Hurley responded to a complaint of a vehicle roll-over at R18 and 320th, Woodward. Driver Collin Menard 25 of West Des Moines was arrested for O.W.I. and failure to maintain control. Collin lost control on a curve at a high rate of speed and rolled his vehicle into the ditch. A 2005 Nisson received $15,000.00 in damages.
3-17-07 3:57pm Deputy Elsberry investigated a car deer accident on Highway 17 just south of 120th. Johnna D. Hanson 42 of Randall Iowa was north bound when a deer ran out in front of him, causing $3,000.00 in damages to his 2001 Ford Escape. No injuries were reported.
3-17-07 7:01pm Deputy Naeve responded to a two vehicle accident at P70 and 140th. David Johns 33 of Ogden was west bound and failed to stop at the stop sign and struck a south bound vehicle operated by Gregg Muench 28 of Ogden. No injuries were reported, damages were est. at $2,000.00 to John's 1987 Honda, and $6,000.00 to Muench's 2006 Chevy. Johns was cited for failure to stop at the stop sign.
3-17-07 10:02pm Deputy Naeve made a traffic stop at Highway 30 and Highway 17. Driver Jason N. Mallas 34 of Boone was arrested for O.W.I. second Offense.
3-18-07 7:36am Deputy Pontius began investigations to vandalized mail boxes at 1704 210th and 1074 R Ave, Boone and 1057 R Ave.
3-18-07 5:47pm Deputy Elsberry responded to a complaint of a dog bite in West Ames in the 6100 block of West Lincoln way.a 9 year old Jarad Coleman had been biten by a neighbors dog. Humane Society called. Dog belongs to a Peggy Yost.
3-19-07 11:47am Burglary alarm was sounding at Security Savings bank in Boxholm, Detective Kendall responded, was a false alarm.
3-19-07 5:57pm Deputy Elsberry began an investigation of a two vehicle accident at 220th and U Ave, Boone. Gilbert Peterson 58 of Nevada stopped at a stop sign and pulled out in front of an east bound vehicle operated by Evan Safly 17 of Gilbert. No injuries were reported. Damages were over $1,000.00 to the two vehicles involved, a 1997 Mercury cougar owned by Safly and a 1996 Dodge owned by Peterson.
3-20-07 8:33am Kelly Weber Jr. 18 of Boone turned himself into the County Jail on a Boone County Warrant, bond $25,000.00 for probation revocation.
3-20-07 1:28pm Sheriff Fehr executed a writ of ejectment at the Good Connection Shelter at 11th and Division. Female was escorted from the property.
3-21-07 1:01pm Detective Kendall began an investigation of the theft of a check book and harassing cell phone calls to a resident in the 2300 block of K Ave, Boone.
3-22-07 2:53am The Communications center received a cell call complaint of an east bound vehicle in the west bound lanes on Highway 30 east of Boone traveling at a high rate. Deputy Naeve responded to the area form the west and Ames P.D. and Story County were informed. Deputy went well into Story County and was unable to locate the vehicle, Story County and Ames P.D. also advised they did not see vehicle.
3-23-07 5:54am Deputy Elsberry arrested a Janet M. Gretter 48 of Ames after she turned herself into the Sheriff's Office on a Boone County Warrant, bond $5,000.00, original charge theft 1st, forged checks.
3-23-07 6:54am Deputy Elsberry investigated a car deer accident 4 miles north of Ogden on P70. April Sesker 25 of Ogden struck a deer causing $5,000.00 in damages to her 2003 Nisson, no injuries were reported.
3-23-07 11:13pm Deputy Ellison responded to the Story County line to pick-up a prisoner arrested by Ames P.D. They had arrested a Elizabeth L. Shelton 31 of Ames on a Boone County warrant for probation revocation, original charge O.W.I.
3-23-07 7:00pm A Rex Krause 41 of Boone turned himself into the Jail on a Boone County Warrant, bond $500.00 for contempt of court original charge possession of drug paraphernalia
3-24-07 12:03am A neighbor to 1635 280th St, Madrid called to report suspicious activity at that location. When Deputies arrived they located a Dodge Dakota pick-up that had just left area and went down a dead end road, Deputies followed the vehicle and waited for it turn around, vehicle was stopped and driver identified as David W. Howell of Grimes Iowa, he was driving under suspension and arrested for that crime, after further investigation it was determined that the shed on the property had been burglarized and the Lawn tractor stolen was in the possession of the Howell, Howell was then charged with burglary 3rd degree. Investigation continuing.
3-24-07 7:49am Deputy Pontius responded to a complaint of a house struck by lightning at 606 W 4th St. Madrid. Home owned by Dean Stanley's. Reported Gas leak and smoke in the home. Madrid and Woodward fire responded. No injuries were reported.
3-25-07 8:06am Deputy Pontius responded to a personal injury accident 4 miles west of Ames on V Ave. The accident occurred at 4:00am. Driver Rachel L. Hubbeling 28 of Ames was north bound when she struck a soft spot in the roadway, lost control and struck a bridge. Hubbeling was taken to Mercy by Air Ambulance. Her vehicle a 2001 Hyundi received $8,000.00 in damages. Hubbeling had been stuck int he vehicle and needed extrication since 4:00am.
3-25-07 2:11pm Deputy Pontius began an investigation of a theft of cigarettes from Boone Fright lines on Industrial Park, Boone. Approximately $40,000.00 in cigarettes has been reported stolen, investigation continuing.
3-29-07 Deputy Rohden investigated a single vehicle accident 1.5 miles East of Ogden on 210th. Ronald D. Thomas 44 of Ottumwa Iowa was operating a semi and trailer and turned a corner to short and rolled the trailer into the ditch, no injuries were reported, damagers were est.at $2,500.00 to 1981 Peterbuilt.
3-30-07 11:07am Deputy Pontius began an investigation of the theft of a Stereo from a vehicle that was parked at 1150 Lotus Place Boone. Richard Smith reported that someone stole his $1,100.00 stereo from the vehicle over night while it was parked car was parked at his parents home at that location. Investigation continuing.
3-30-07 11:54am Deputy Kendall responded to a Semi fire at Highway 30 and Airport road. Fire was out upon his arrival Minor damages to the semi and trailer. Operator was a Dwayne Cooper 47 of Strawberry point Iowa.
3-30-07 10:54pm Deputy Dominick responded to a complaint of kids shooting paint balls at road signs on Quill Ave, South of highway 30. Complainant followed the suspect vehicle into Boone, Until the vehicle could be stopped by Boone Police and Deputy. Paint ball gun and paint balls were seized from the vehicle, investigation continuing.
3-31-07 9:48am Roger Claude of 1154 188th Rd Boone called in a complaint that someone had dumped a waterbed and sheetrock at the end of his driveway. County Road crew was called for clean-up. Investigation continuing.
3-31-07 5:34pm Deputy Elsberry responded to a complaint that a vehicle was located in the mud near the waterworks area NW of Boone, and that the vehicle had been burned. Turned out to be a stolen vehicle from the city of Boone. Boone P.D. called to fingerprint vehicle as it was not completely burned. Investigation continuing.
