3-01-06 12:05am Appanoose County informed Boone County that they had arrested a James P. Smith 34 of Boone on a Boone County warrant in Centerville Iowa. They will hold for transport. Bond $10,000.00.
3-02-06 8:26am Sgt Hurley took a complaint from a Kristi Beattie of Runnells Iowa, Kristi reported that on or about Feb. 23rd of this year while she was traveling on 216th St, with a passenger, near the river bridge, they both heard a loud boom and then the windshield of her vehicle shattered. After they had the windshield repaired the repairman found 3 metal pelletts consistant with shotgun pelletts. Since then Kristi and her passenger are not real sure were this may have taken place, but somewhere along 216th St.
3-02-06 9:33am Detective Kendall and Sgt Hurley have begun an investigation into the break in of three storage units in West Ames at Keepers Storage. One unit reported a Men's Trek bike worth $700.00 missing. Investigation continuing.
3-02-06 3:06pm Vance Pals of West 3rd Extension filed a complaint that someone had placed a flyer in his mothers mailbox. Flyer was indicating that a Sex Offender lives in the neighborhood. Pals wants the person or persons responsible charged with tampering with mailboxes a federal offense. Pals was told to contact the Post Master for further investigation.
3-02-06 4:29pm Detective Kendall was informed by a Detective with the Story County Sheriff's Office that they had recovered a 1997 Polaris Snowmobile. The snowmobile was located in the 1500 block of Delaware in Ames. The Snowmobile had been stolen on December 22nd 2005 from a Thomas Smith of Rural Boone. Investigation continuing.
3-02-06 5:06pm Deputy Dominick responded to a Domestic situation in the 600 block of 300th St, Ogden. Male party there was taken into custody and taken to the Boone County Hospital for evaluation.
3-03-06 11:45pm Deputy Middleton arrested a Brian J. Williams 19 of Pilot Mound in Pilot Mound for False information a serious misdemeanor, Williams had reported that his vehicle had been stolen on February 24th when the investigation has revealed that Williams wrecked his vehicle and made the false report. Bond set at $1,950.00.
3-05-06 1:56pm Deputy Rohden began an investigation that deer stands and camera equipment was stolen from a timber area one mile east of Pilot Mound. Tony Ferrari reported that he had 3 tree stands and 2 trail cameras stolen from this area, and valued at $1,000.00. Investigation continuing.
3-05-06 3:18pm Deputy Rohden responded to a complaint of a garbage dump on Railroad property between Quartz and Fairgrounds in Boone. Dumped was a Fridge and several computers, Investigation continuing.
3-05-06 4:54pm The Office took another complaint that an old couch and stereo had been dumped from the Scenic Valley R.R. Bridge onto the railroad right of way near I Ave. Both of these garbage dump cases will be handed over to Planning and zoning with assistance from the Sheriff's Office.
3-05-06 12:56pm Deputy Dominick investigated a a single vehicle accident 2 miles North of Perry int he 400 block of 320th Robert Kraft 18 of Perry lost control coming off of eagle ave onto 320th and went into the north ditch, causing $4,000.00 in damages to his 1992 Honda Accord. A passenger Michael Schmitz 18 of Perry was taken to a Dallas County Hospital after the vehicle was pushed out of the ditch. Driver did not report accident and was cited for leaving the scene of an accident.
3-06-06 8:00am Deputy Dominick responded to 7 Oaks Recreation Center West of Boone on a complaint that the business had been broken into over night, taken was $25.00 in change from a cash register, between cash and register daamge total lass est. at $125.00. investigation continuing.
3-07-06 1:11pm Sgt Hurley responded to an incomplete 911 from the Shamrock crossing by the Union Pacific Railroad on R Ave. Was possibly caused by short in phone wires due to moisture, [ rain ].
3-08-06 3:56am Union Pacific Railroad called to report that someone has placed mannequins on the railroad tracks west of Boone on the Coal Rd Crossing. Deputy Middleton responded.
3-08-06 5:33am A witness called to report that he had observed a vehicle strick a lighted stop sign and knock it over at S Ave and Old Highway 30. East of Boone. Vehicle was located and driver identified as Joel Decker 22 of Grimes. Mr. Decker said that due to the fog and ice he applied his brakes and slid into the sign. Damages were est. at $500.00 to his 1990 Chevrolet. No injuries were reported, damages to the sign are unknown at this time.
3-08-06 1:57pm Sgt. Hurley began an investigation of the theft of DVD'S taken from a residence in the 1100 block of 232nd, Boone. Total value est. at $225.00.
3-08-06 10:12pm Deputy Middleton responded to a house fire at 2231 210th Ames. Boone Fire and Boone Ambulance responded. One male was found by another family member in the home unconscious and covered in suet. Daniel Lawlor 62 of that address was pronounced dead at the scene, County Medical examiner called and State Fire Marshalls Office was called to assist, at this time no foul play suspected.
3-10-06 10:25am Sgt Hurley responded to a complaint of a child out of control at the Boys and Girls Home in West Ames. Arrested and turned over to his parents was 14 year old Bruce B. Alexander of Bonderant for 5th degree criminal mischief for damaging property belonging to the Home.
3-10-06 12:04pm Sgt Hurley responded to a two vehicle accident on Highway 30 and L Ave near 7 Oaks. Robert L. Flynn 53 of Boone was northbound crossing highway, failed to yield right of right of way for west bound vehicle operated by Alisa Waterbury 19 of Manning Iowa and was struck by the Waterbury vehicle. Injured was both drivers. Waterbury was taken to the Boone County Hospital by Boone County Ambulance, Flynn was taken to Iowa Methodist in Des Moines. Flynn's 2005 Ford F150 received $24,000.00 in damages and Waterbury's 1989 Olds received $1,000.00 in damages. Charges are pending.
3-11-06 9:40am Deputy Dominick responded to a complaint by Ed Fraser of Boone that someone had burned a building on his property located at the Old Girls YMCA Camp east of Fraser, and old shower building had been burned sometime since March 1st.
3-11-06 12:22pm Deputy Dominick responded to a complaint of horses running loose in the area of 1200 block of 252nd, Boone. Horses belong to Gary Wiscup and were rounded up.
3-12-06 1:12pm Hamilton County informed Boone County that they had arrested a Chance R. Pint 20 of Boone on a Boone County Warrant, Bond $900.00.
3-13-06 11:00am Ames P.D. notified Boone County that they had arrested a Mark Dearborn 23 of Ames on a Boone County warrant, bond $300.00 for a Alcohol violation.
3-13-06 4:38pm While Jailers were releasing an inmate from custody a record check showed that William Clark Jr. 21 was wanted by Greene County on a Warrant, Greene County was notified to pick-up. Bond $1080.00.
3-15-06 7:07am Sgt Hurley investigated a a single vehicle accident 2 miles East of Boone on 200th St. Driver Richard Jones 48 of Ames was east bound when he lost control on the gravel and went into the north ditch and struck the embankment and rolled over. Jones was taken by Boone County Ambulance to the Boone County Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Damages were est. at $9,000.00 to his 2002 Ford Ranger.
3-15-06 5:00pm Detective Kendall formerly filed new charges on an inmate that is being held in the Boone County Jail. The new charges on Jay Lerma Cavazos 25 are 2 counts of Sexual abuse 2nd degree and indecent contact with a child one count. These charges stem from a lengthy investigation that alleges that Cavazos committed these acts in three separate locations in Boone County one in the 900 block of lamb lane, and two in the city limits of Boone all with the same victim a female child age 10.
3-16-06 6:57am Sgt Hurley responded to the United Comm. School building on an incomplete 911 call, School as on Spring break and only a limited staff in on grounds, Phone Co. has been working on lines and is most likely caused by them as no one was located to have called 911.
3-16-06 4:16pm Deputy Kendall responded to an incomplete 911 call to 43 Juniper Rd, Pilot Mound, contact was made with persons living in the home, a child was playing with the phone.
3-17-06 12:44am Deputy Middleton assisted a stalled motorist in the 1000 block of 200th St, Boone.
3-18-06 3:21am Deputy Pontius and Elsberry began an investigation of a single vehicle accident that tool place at the intersection of 198th and Mallard, Just NW of Boone. A vehicle had rolled at that intersection and a parent and other friends of the driver had reportedly cleaned up the area, removing the truck and taking driver to motel to avoid Law Enforcement. At this time unsure if anyone was injured. Pickup was located in Fraser, and investigation continuing.
3-18-06 11:58pm Deputy Pontius investigated a single vehicle accident on nature Rd, and E18. Sarah Weyer 18 of Boone was north bound on Nature Rd, when she lost control and rolled her vehicle in the West ditch. No injuries were reported, damages were est. at $1,000.00 to her 1990 Toyota. Weyer was cited for possession of Alcohol under the legal age, and .02 violation, also a passenger Allison Rogers 18 of Boone was cited for possession of Alcohol.
3-20-06 8:41am Sgt Hurley responded to the 300 block of 332nd Place, Perry on a complaint that of a dog running at large. owner of the dog was spoken to and told about the Ordinance of not allowing your dog to run at large.
3-20-06 1:27pm Deputy Dominick responded to a complaint of an assault that taken place at the Woodward Academy. Daniel L. Cambbell 16 of St. Charles Iowa was arrested for assault on another client at the Academy.
3-20-06 1:30pm Detective Kendall received information that Doyle L. Price reported that he had two hand guns stolen from his residence while he was out of State. He had been gone since March 8th and discovered the 2 guns missing from his gun cabinet. Investigation continuing,.
3-20-06 6:47pm Gary Wisecup of Rural Ogden reported that his unlocked home had been entered and items stolen. Missing is a Subwoofer, theft took place sometime between 7:30am till 4:00pm.
3-21-06 4:54am Deputy Middleton responded to a Domestic situation in Luther in the 300 block of 5th St. The male side of the complaint had left the scene. The female had sustained injuries, investigation continuing.
3-21-06 8:14am Chief Deputy Mitchell responded to a complaint of vehicles int he ditch at Highway 17 and old 30. One vehicle was unoccupied and no damages the other vehicle was occupied and no damages, they had called for assistance by Cell phone and needed no assistance. There were several vehicles reported in ditches mostly on Highway 17 and New Highway 30.
3-21-06 12:02pm Sgt Hurley responded to the Madrid P.D. to begin an investigation of an alleged assault that took place between and 18 year old female and her mother in the 2000 block of QW Lane. Investigation is continuing.
3-21-06 4:00pm Detective Kendall arrested two suspects Spencer M. Snodgrass 17 of Des Moines and Elijah L. Stanley 15 of Ogden for Arson 2nd Degree A Class C Felony For the alleged burning of an old building on the Old Girls YMCA Camp east of Fraser on or about March 11th, 2006.
3-22-06 12:52am Deputy Elsberry and Middleton responded to a complaint that a woman had come to the complainants door and crying and kicked the door. The Female was taken into custody and transported to the Boone County Hospital for evaluation.
3-22-06 A warrant was issued for Steven E. Hidlebaugh 56 of Luther for Domestic Abuse assualt that took place in Luther in the 300 block of 5th St, Luther the night before 3-21-06.
3-22-06 11:53am Sgt Hurley responded to a construction site burglary at 1571 Quill Ave, Boone. Detective Kendall and Hurley collected evidence from the scene. At 4:00pm Suspect vehicle was stopped in Ankeny. Detective Kendall assisted by Ankeny P.D. and Polk County Sheriff Detectives were able to recover a substantial portion of the stolen property from Quill Ave. The Stolen trailer was recovered near Polk City, and had been cleaned out and burned. Arrested for Burglary 3rd degree class D Felony and theft 2nd degree a class D felony, were the following---Max Gibson 23 of Ankeny, Joseph M. Goering 24 of Polk City, and William E. Dickerson 20 of Polk City. Several thousands of dollars worth of tools have been recovered. Investigation continuing.
3-24-06 5:00am Deputy Pontius investigated a pick-up-- deer accident on Kale Rd near Fraser. Eric Udelhoven 46 of Boone Struck a deer causing damages to his 1996 Chevrolet Pick-up. No injuries were reported.
3-24-06 10:41pm Deputy Elsberry investigated a complaint from a Chris Johnson of Ames that someone had entered his stored vehicle in a locked garage in the 5900 block of West Lincoln way Ames. Taken was some tools , battery and Tachometer, all valued in excess of $400.00. Investigation continuing.
3-25-06 12:50am Deputy Pontius assisted with a traffic stop that was made by a Madrid P.D. Officer, near Madrid on Highway 17. Driver Sean Gogerty 17 of Madrid was arrested for O.W.I., passengers Anthony Simmer 18 of Madrid, Jonathan Simmer 18 of Madrid, Nickolus Peterson 17 of Madrid and Emily Schaffer 15 of Madrid all were cited for possession of alcohol under the legal age.
3-25-06 1:11am Deputy Pontius along with K-9 Taser were requested by Dallas County for assistance with an underage drinking party in Woodward, also involving illegal narcotics. Several teenagers were cited by Dallas County.
3-25-06 6:10am Sgt Hurley responded to the Story-Boone County line to pick-up a prisoner arrested by Story County, Trasnported to the Boone County Jail was Taine C. Blessing 23 of Ames.
3-25-06 10:01am Sgt Hurley investigated a single vehicle accident that took place around 5:00am. Driver Zackery A. Fox 23 of Paton Iowa was east bound on 170th, 4 miles NE of Ogden, stated that he swerved to avoid hitting a deer and went into the north ditch and vaulted a driveway and struck a fence. Driver had already seeked medical attention before contacting the Sheriff's Office. Minor Injuries. Damages were est. at $5,000.00 to his 2000 Ford F150.
3-26-06 11:09am Sgt Hurley responded to the 2300 block of Deer Ave, Perry. Owner of the construction site reported that several of his tools had been taken over night. investigation is continuing.
3-27-06 11:15pm Deputy Elsberry assisted a stalled motorist with a flat tire in the 100 block of 325th St, Boone.
3-29-06 The Central Iowa Task Force executed a search warrant at 621 10th St, Boone. Seized was Cocaine and Marijuana. Arrested were the following-- Cullen Joseph Corpron 20 and Hollie A. VanCannon 18 both of Boone. and charged with Possession of Cocaine with the intent to deliver, Possesion of marijuana with the intent to deliver, and Tax Stamp violations for both Marijuana and Cocaine.

3-31-06 4:34pm Detective Kendall arrested Justin Downs 20 of Churdan and Tanner Bush 19 of Churdan for Burglary 3rd Degree for that occured at 7 Oaks Recreation Center on March 6th, 2006. A third person may be charged at a later date.
