6-01-07 3:00am As a result of the continued investigation into the death of Michael Shane Hill the following individuals were arrested at the Boone County Sheriff's Office and charged with 1st Degree Murder-- Daniel A. Blair 25 of 215 11th Street, Boone Iowa, and Aron M. Moss 26 also of 215 11th Street, Boone. Additional search warrants are being executed in the Boone and Pilot Mound areas. The joint investigation is continuing between the Boone County Sheriff's Office, D.C.I. and the State Medical Examiners Office. The agencies have also been assisted by the Ogden and Boone Police Dept's. Both suspects are being held in the Boone County Jail and will be arraigned later this afternoon, bond is 1 million cash for each defendant.
6-01-07 5:00pm The Boone County Sheriff's Office assisted by the D.C.I. arrested Jessica Hill 24 of 602 I Ave Pilot Mound, she has been formally charged with 1st degree murder in connection to the death of her Husband Michael Shane Hill. Jessica is being held in the Boone County Jail on 1 million cash bond. Investigation is continuing.

6-02-07 12:13am Deputy Godzicki investigated a Semi- deer accident 4 miles north of highway 30 on Highway 17. No injuries were reported. Damages to the Semi were est at $900.00 to his 2003 Kenworth.
6-02-07 9:37pm Deputy Rohden investigated a vehicle in the ditch in the 1800 block of Magnolia Rd, Boone. Driver Justin J. Kelley 42 of Ames was arrested for O.W.I. Damages were est. at $3,000.00 to his 2001 Ford F150. No injuries were reported.
6-02-07 9:40pm Deputy Godzicki responded to an ambulance assist in Pilot Mound at 210 Cottage St.
6-03-07 2:33pm Deputy Godzicki responded to a complaint of a theft of a chain saw at 1691 Peach Ave, Madrid. Owner Richard Diltz reported the incident.
6-03-07 2:42pm Sgt. Hurley responded to a complaint by the Union Pacific Railroad that an individual was seen laying on the tracks and forced a train to stop. Male person then got up and left the area. Deputies were able to locate the individual was then taken into custody for a mental evaluation.
6-04-07 10:50am Deputy Wingate responded to a complaint of cattle running loose int he area of E26 1/2 mile north of Leaf Rd. Owner of cattle Mark McPherson.
6-04-07 3:51pm Deputy Elsberry responded to a complaint that there was a vehicle that had gone into the ditch at 250th and R Ave. Witness gave the driver a ride to Boone, and called in about the accident. Deputy found the vehicle with no damages, operator was located and then committed to Broad lawns in Des Moines for Psych evaluation.
6-04-07 5:48pm Deputy Elsberry located a vehicle that was wanted by Webster City P.D. for a gas drive off at their Casey's. Information was given to Webster City as they will follow up on investigation , no charges at this time.
6-05-07 7:42pm Deputy Elsberry responded to a fire at an Apartment in Boxholm. Boxholm Fire responded along with Pilot Mound fire to 702 2nd St. Boxholm, everyone was out of the building and no injuries wee reported. Fire was contained to the Kitchen area with very little damages. Apt belonging to Sandra Sobotka.
6-06-07 2:43pm Deputy Wingate responded to a complaint by Gary Grasso that someone had driven off the road through his yard and struck his house sometime this morning. Deputy took photos and recovered car parts that were left at the scene.
6-06-07 5:14pm Deputy Wingate began an investigation of a personal injury accident at Highway 30 and R18. Ogden fire and Boone County Ambulance assisted at the scene. Laura L. Pieper 30 of Perry was west bound on Highway 30, when Darcie A. Long 37 of Boone was north bound on R18 and failed to yield the right of way for the Pieper vehicle, causing the collision in the intersection. Injured was Both drivers who were treated at the Boone County hospital with Minor injuries. Damages were est. at $15,000.00 to Pieper's 2004 Ford, and $15,000.00 to Long's 2003 Chevy. Long will be cited for Failure to yield right of way.

6-07-07 11:55am Sgt Hurley investigated a car deer accident 3 miles East of Boone on Highway 30. Jocelyn Rodriquez-Seda 23 of Ames struck a deer on the Highway, causing $2,500.00 in damages to her 2003 Accord. No injuries were reported.
6-07-07 5:27pm Deputy Wingate made a traffic stop at the Madrid Gravel Pits west of Madrid. Driver of vehicle Saul Hernandez 30 of Perry was arrested for driving under suspension.
6-08-07 2:37pm Deputy Elsberry assisted the Ogden Officer with searching and finding a woman who had walked away from her residence and has Alzheimers, she was located and taken back home within a short period of time.
6-08-07 3:53pm Deputy Elsberry responded to a two vehicle accident at X Ave and E57. Boone County Ambulance and Kelley Rescue were on scene. air Ambulance was dispatched to the scene. Maureen K. Petersen 21 of Ames was north bound on X Ave when she stopped at the Stop sign and then proceeded into the path of another east bound vehicle operated by Timothy A. Kohlhaas 24 of Ames. Kohlhaas had the right of way. Injured both drivers. Peterson was taken to Iowa Methodist by Air Ambulance, Kohlhaas was taken by Boone County Ambulance to the Boone County Hospital. Damages were est. at $3,000.00 to Petersen's 198 Chevy, and $8,000.00 to Kohlhaas' 2000 Pontiac.

6-09-07 9:48am Deputy Naeve responded to a complaint of a horse running loose in the 1500 block of Quill, Boone. Horse located and Deputy placed in pasture, owner not located.
6-09-07 9:08pm Deputy Elsberry and Rohden responded to Sheldahl on a complaint of a domestic situation, was an altercation between father and adult son. Son left the home for now. No charges at this time.
6-10-07 4:59am Ottumwa P.D. informed Boone County that they had taken a person in custody, who was also wanted on a Boone County warrant. Nicholas H. Laverne 22 was arrested and will be held in Ottumwa until they are complete, he is wanted in Boone County on a Warrant for failure to appear nd failure to register as a sex offender, bond $5,000.00.
6-10-07 10:15am Deputy Pontius responded to a complaint of a mail box vandalized in the 800 block of 150th St, Pilot Mound. Incident occurred overnight.
6-10-07 9:23pm Deputy Dominick responded to a complaint of a burned vehicle that was located by some walkers near Fraser, by the Dam. Vehicle had been reported stolen this morning in the City of Boone. Information handed over to Boone P.D.
6-11-07 2:50am Deputy Dominick responded to a personal injury accident at 250th and P Ave, Boone. 2 passengers were taken to the Boone County Hospital for treatment of injuries one individual had serious injuries and was trapped in the vehicle. Driver Joshua Jones 21 of Ames was arrested for O.W.I. Jones lost control and rolled his vehicle into the ditch, the two passengers who taken to the Hospital were Jennifer Naeve 25of Ames, and Adam Dotts 21 of Nevada. Damages were est. at $5,000.00 to Jone's 1992 Chevy.
6-11-07 4:53pm Deputy Elsberry investigated a two vehicle accident at 260th and Highway 17. Marylou Westbrook 53 of Madrid was stopped at the stop sign on 260th preparing to turn left when she was struck from behind by Dian L. Sundall 72 of Boone. No injuries were reported. Damages were est. at $1,000.00 to Sundall's 2000 Windstar, and $1,500.00 to Westbrook's 2007 Chevy Impala.
6-11-07 7:59pm Deputy Dominick responded to a complaint of vandalism to a house at 1209 Jasmine Place, Ogden. Three holes were found in the siding of the home. It appears to from a firearm, home owners said that they here gun shots in the early morning and evenings off and on. Damages est. at $600.00.
6-12-07 2:27am Deputy Rohden responded to a Madrid to assist a Madrid Officer with a domestic situation in the 800 block of 9th Street. Lindsay A. Burke 27 of Madrid was arrested for domestic abuse assault.
6-12-07 10:22pm Deputy Pontius made a traffic stop for possible drunk driver on Story Street in the 300 block. Driver was under the influence of drugs or medication. D.R.E. Deputy performed tests and urine sample was obtained, Driver taken off the roadway and awaiting results of tests for possible charges.
6-13-07 1:08am Deputy Dominick and Godzicki responded to a complaint of a vehicle upside down in the ditch at 310th and M Ave. No driver or anyone located around the vehicle. The vehicle a 1999 Silver Chevy Pick-up is registered to a Resident of Woodward. Cody M. Johnson 21 of Woodward was identified as the driver he told the officer that he was texting a message when he swerved to miss a deer and rolled his vehicle into the ditch. No injuries were reported, damages were est. at $11,000.00 to his 1999 Chevy Pick-up. Johnson was cited for failure to maintain control.
6-13-07 12:00pm Deputy Naeve responded to a complaint of trespassers on railroad property at the Yard In Boone. Arrested fro trespassing was Leticia A. Williams 19 of Burkberenett Texas, and Jason E. Benson 22 of Visalia California.
6-13-07 9:39pm Deputy Godzicki assisted a Madrid Officer with a call of a wanted person in the 400 block of east 1st, Madrid. Ronnie Weaver Jr. 23 of Madrid was taken into on a Polk County Warrant, and taken to the Polk County Line for Pick-up by Polk County. Weaver was wanted on a Polk County Warrant for Burglary 3rd and Probation revocation, no Bond.
6-14-07 6:12am Deputy Naeve was dispatched to a complaint of horses running loose in the area of County Rd E57 East of Berkley. owner of Horses Ralph Walker was able to round up.
6-14-07 7:05am Deputy Naeve responded to a complaint of a peson burning what appeared to be tires in the 1500 block of 334th Rd, Madrid. Deputy arrived and spoke to individual and did not see any tires or rubber, person burning did stop burning.
6-14-07 9:00am Sheriff Fehr executed a writ of ejectment at 1421 5th St. Boone. Property was removed from the house onto the right of way. Was completed by 10:30am.
6-14-07 4:09pm Deputy Elsberry took a complaint from Roger Twogood in the 2100 block of Deere Ave, Perry, Mr. Twogood reported that this week an asphalt company approached him and said that they had left over material from another project and wanted to know if he wanted his driveway covered. They agreed to terms of over $12,000.00 for the project which was completed on Tuesday. Mr. Twogood has now found out that he could have had the project done for much less. This is a civil matter, but important for citizens who are approached with these deals to compare prices before entering any kind of agreements.
6-15-07 6:34am Deputy Naeve responded to a complaint by Martin Olson of Rural Boone that someone had broken into his machine shed over night and stolen his ATV, and that there was a vehicle parked out on the roadway in front of his property with the windows broken out. This was in the 1900 block of 195th St. Boone. The car a 1993 buick was discovered to have been stolen overnight from a Mary Brown who lives in the city limits of Ogden. The ATV was later located in a Field in the 1600 bock of 200th St, Boone. Investigation continuing.
6-15-07 8:14am Deputy Naeve responded to 1979 210th St, Boone to investigate a two vehicle accident. Janet M. Riley 73 of Rural Boone told the Deputy that she thought she was hitting her brake instead she hit her accelerator and struck her husbands vehicle John Riley 73 also of Boone, she then continued and struck the a garage owned by Lisa Hawkins of 1977 210th St. Boone. No injuries were reported, damages were est. at $4,000.00 to Janet's 1991 Chevy, and $1,000.00 to John's Buick, and several thousand to the garage.
6-15-07 3:09pm Deputy Elsberry arrested a Joseph B. Lanstrom 20 of Boone on a Boone County warrant for a material witness, bond $10,000.00. Arrested at 280th and L Ave.
6-15-07 11:43pm A Madrid Officer made a traffic stop at Highway 17 and Highway 30, and requested a County Car. Deputy Godzicki confronted the Driver of the vehicle Jose Anastacio Vazquez-Roman 42 of Boone and arrested for O.W.I. 1st, and no License.
6-16-07 1:48am Deputy Ellsion stopped a speeding vehicle in West Ames, driver and passenger did not speak English. Driver was cited for no drivers license. Operator was Breiner Moralez-Perez 19 of Nevada.
6-16-07 7:02am Deputy Pontius responded to a complaint of a man laying on the roadway st Marion and 22nd St. Man was intoxicated and later told Deputies that the vehicle they had located at the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad parking he had stolen. Arrested was Matthew J. Berg 20 of Ames for Public Intoxication and Operating a Motor vehicle without the Owners consent. Owner of the vehicle is Susan Weller-Simpson of Hubbard Ohio.
6-16-07 5:07pm Deputy Elsberry arrested a Jessica M. Hedlund 21 of Boone on a Polk County warrant, arrest was made at Casey's In Madrid.
6-16-07 9:06pm Seven Oaks Employee's called to report possible missing Kayakers between Highway 30 and E57. Search and rescue was dispatched and search went on for over an hour before they realized that the Kayakers had returned and gone home, but the Kayaks' were missing someone had taken them between when the renters were completed and Seven Oaks went to retrieve. Theft is now continuing.
6-17-07 10:18am Deputy Pontius responded to a complaint by Diane Davis in the 700 block of Leaf Rd, that someone had placed a large wooden statue of Ronald McDonald at the end of her driveway. Statue was taken and belongs to a Toby McKlauenberg in the 900 block of H Ave.
6-17-07 12:38pm Deputy Pontius responded to a complaint of a trespassing incident in the 2200 block of 250th. This is an ongoing family dispute. Two brothers who cannot get along over the property rights. Civil matter.
6-18-07 3:11pm Deputy Wingate took a complaint from Ryan Backes an Auctioneer out of Waterloo who took a check rom an Auction at the Basil Restaurant earlier this month, the check was in the amount of over $3,700.00. Investigation continuing.
6-18-07 5:27pm Deputy Wingate began an investigation of a vehicle that had been stripped down completely in the 100 block of J Ave, Pilot Mound. Wesley Phipps is the owner of the 1970 Plymouth. Est damages at $5,000.00.
6-18-07 9:53pm Deputy Wingate investigated a car deer accident on Highway 17 just north of Madrid. Jay B. Larson 48 of Boone, struck a deer causing $1,500.00 in damages to his 2003 Ford Explorer, no injuries were reported.
6-18-07 10:33pm Deputy Godzicki responded to the 1000 block of 320th Woodward on a complaint that a vehicle had driven by this location and smashed a mailbox. Investigation continuing.
6-19-07 1:34am 911 call received a complaint of a motorcycle driving a high rate of speed on Highway 30 between Untied Community School and Boone west bound. Motorcycle was spotted in Boone near Pollard Dentistry on S. Marshall, and fled from Officers. Motorcycle lost control in that area and driver fled on foot. Deputies and Boone Officers wee unable to locate driver. Motorcycle was impounded.
6-19-07 4:58am Camp Hantasa called 911 to report a missing 5th Grader from the camp area. Counselor could not locate her. Deputy Dominick responded and Search and Rescue were dispatched. Child was found in another cabin area sleeping. All OK.
6-19-07 10:20am Detective Kendall assisted by the Ogden P.D. arrested a Timothy Dickerson 23 of Ogden. Dickerson was arrested at 113 E. Walnut, Ogden on a warrant out of Ames for 2nd degree sexual abuse.
6-19-07 8:38pm Ames P.D. notified Boone County that they had arrested a Patrick Ellis 23 of Boone on a Boone County warrant. Warrant for simple assault, bond $325.00.
6-19-07 9:17pm Ames P.D. notified Boone County that they had arrested a Bobby J. Watson 27 of Ames on a Boone County warrant. Warrant for failure to appear, original charge theft 2nd, bond $7,500.00.
6-19-07 10:23pm Deputy Godzicki responded to a complaint of a dog that had attacked a cat and then the owner of the cat at 345 U Ave, Boone. Injured was David Minner of that address. owner of the dog Kyle McBride of Ames. Dog was taken to teh Humane Society for observation.
This next Thursday June 28th there will be a retirement Coffee for Chief Deputy Randy Mitchell. This will be held at the Sheriff's Office Lobby from 2pm--4pm Stop by visit and say goodbye to Randy. Randy has 32 years of Service with the Boone County Sheriff's Office, 20 plus as Chief Deputy he will be greatly missed by all.
6-20-07 7:40am Deputy Wingate responded to a complaint of cattle loose on the roadway in the 700 block of leaf Rd, North of Boone. Cattle were rounded up. Cattle belong to Rollie Stevens.
6-20-07 12:42pm Deputy Wingate made a traffic stop in the 700 block of Highway 30 near Ogden. Driver Thomas Meyer 71 was arrested for driving while Barred, he was also charged with interference with official acts.
6-21-07 9:06am Sheriff Fehr Executed a writ of ejectment at 705 1/2 Story St. Boone. Execution was completed at Noon.
6-21-07 8:53pm Sgt. Hurley responded to a domestic situation that started in Ogden, vehicle was stopped on Highway 30. The dispute was over a 14 month child.
6-22-07 7:25am Deputy Pontius responded to a barn fire at 1428 E Ave, Ogden. Fire Departments from Ogden, Grand Jct., Bouton, Perry, Pilot Mound, and Woodward were all dispatched. Barn belonged to Allen Lamm of that address. No injuries were reported, significant damages were reported to the large barn.
6-22-07 2:47pm Deputy Wingate responded to a complaint by a farmer that someone had just opened one his anhydrous tanks in the 600 block of 200th St. Ogden. Thought it had been tampered with within the last 30 minutes. Leak was discovered to be because of humidity, weather conditions.
6-22-07 6:48pm Deputy Wingate responded to an alarm sounding at Kinzler Construction at 2335 230th, Ames, was a false alarm.
6-22-07 10:09pm Deputy Wingate responded to an ambulance assist in the 800 block of 170th, St. Ogden. Was a diabetic reaction.
6-23-07 1:53am Deputy Rohden responded to the Ledges State Park, Camping area on a cell phone complaint from a camper claiming that there were two wolves fighting just outside her tent. Officer found two raccoons in the area.
6-23-07 2:37am Deputy Dominick responded to the South Side Kum and Go on a complaint from the clerk of an intoxicated individual at their Store, All Boone P.D. Officers were busy on other calls. Person located was Jody S. Coplin 30 of Rocky Mount Missouri, she was arrested for public intoxication.
6-24-07 12:19pm Sgt. Hurley responded to a complaint by Donna Page in the 1000 block of 22nd St. Boone. She reported that someone broke into her garage and took out some grass skirts and burned them in her yard. Also a rubber made tub was reported missing. Total value of items missing or destroyed, $150.00.
6-24-07 1:23pm Sgt. Hurley responded to a complaint of a vehicle that had driven off into a ditch and back out at Highway 30 and 17. Operator was in the area, as he now had a flat tire. Deputy assisted with changing tire and cited operator Wesley J. Tener 17 of Riverside Iowa for failure to maintain control.
6-25-07 6:47am Sgt. Hurley responded to a single vehicle accident in the 2100 block of Y Ave, Ames. Richard C. Smyth 27 of Slater lost control went into a ditch and damaged a fence owned by Marvis Clark. No injuries were reported. Smyth's 2004 Ford Ranger received $1,000.00 in damages. Smyth was cited for failure to maintain control.
6-25-07 8:35am Sgt. Hurley responded to 7 Oaks Recreation Center on a complaint that someone had driven through their parking lot and ran over garbage cans. Vehicle responsible left their rear view mirror. Investigation continuing.
6-26-07 12:55am Deputy Dominick responded to a complaint of a house fire at 1803 300th Madrid. Madrid Fire Woodward Fire and Boone Fire all responded. The house was an abandoned house owned by Kaye Check of Madrid. House was fully engulfed.
6-26-07 1:34pm Deputy Hurley responded to the Des Moines River area near the Waterworks treatment plant NW of Boone. The complaint was that a 58 year old man from Boone had fallen out of a Kayak, did get to shore and was going to walk to Boat Ramp he did not show u and family became concerned. Search and Rescue was dispatched fro search of the area. The gentleman was located and O.K.
6-26-07 5:45pm Deputy Wingate investigated a tow vehicle accident at P70 and 120th. David Pedigo 43 of Ripon Wisconsin was was north bound when he came up over a hill and to avoid hitting a vehicle that was slowed to turn left he veered off to the right and went into the ditch and then back left into the west ditch and struck a field drive. The second no contact vehicle was operated by Pamela K. Portilla 44 of Lake City. No injuries were reported. Damages were est. at $1,200.00 to Pedigo's 2006 Chrysler and no damages to Portilla's 2000 Buick.
6-26-07 8:44pm Deputy Rohden responded to a complaint by Bruce Uthe of Ogden that he had tools and equipment stolen from a construction site in the 1100 block of J Ave. Value of missing items est. at $2,300.00. Investigation continuing.
6-27-07 1:48am Deputy Rohden responded to a domestic situation in the 1100 block of 232nd, Boone. Arrested for Domestic assault was Mark D. Haase 21 of 1198 232nd Boone.
6-27-07 4:46am Deputy Godzicki responded to a complaint of horses running loose in the 600 block of 280th. owner located and horses rounded up.
6-27-07 1:00pm Detective Kendall and Boone P.D. working a joint investigation involving stolen vehicles had received a tip that one vehicle was in the old frog pond at McHose Park near the sanitation station. Search and Rescue dive team was used and recovered a stolen Pick-up from the bottom of the pond. Pick-up had been stolen around June 15th from 1653 200th St, Boone. Investigation continuing.
6-27-07 5:18pm Deputy Wingate responded to a complaint by Robin Bugger of Boone, who reported that she had property stored in the 1400 block of 170th and now it is missing. Chain length fence and pool and toys so far reported missing.
6-29-07 9:20am Deputy Pontius assisted a stalled motorist with her vehicle as it kept stalling out on highway 30 east of Boone. Wrecker service was called.
6-29-07 7:32pm Deputy Dominick responded to the Madrid boat ramp to assist a DNR Officer with an intoxicated individual on a jet ski in the Des Moines River. Operator Kevin J. Peterson 42 of Grimes was arrested for boating while intoxicated. Dominick transported the individual and DNR filed paperwork.
6-29-07 7:30pm Deputy Wingate investigated a single vehicle accident in the 2200 block of 160th NW of Boone. Andrew C. Schmeisser 22 of Mason City Iowa was west bound when he swerved to miss something in the roadway and then lost control and went into the north ditch rolling the vehicle. Schmeisser was taken to the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames with injuries. Damages were est. at $15,000.00 to his 1990 Mazda.
6-30-07 3:00am Deputy Dominick made a traffic stop in the 300 block of East walnut in Ogden. The driver Akemi D. Howell 28 of Yetter Iowa was arrested for Possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
6-30-07 5:44am Deputy Ellison responded to a complaint of a vehicle in the ditch on E18 west of 500th. Driver Randall Rittenhouse 24 of Ames was charged with driving while License suspended, no insurance and O.W.I. 1st. Rittenhouse was treated and released from the Boone County Hospital. His 1993 Ford Tempo had received damages
6-30-07 11:34am Deputy Pontius responded to Ogden to assist the Police with a possible suicide attempt. one female was taken into custody and transported the Boone County Hospital for evaluation
6-30-07 5:08pm Deputy Pontius responded to a barn fire in the 1700 block of 205th St. Boone. Patti Hall owner had a controlled burn get out of hand and start the barn on fire. Boone fire responded.
6-30-07 6:12pm Deputy Pontius responded to a complaint from Lawrence Bennett that he had been struck by a vehicle in the 1200 block of Mission Lane, Boone. Bennet was air lifted to a Des Moines Hospital. Bennett was able to speak to the Deputy and investigation is continuing.
