Smith of the North Central Correctional Facility in Rockwell City, Iowa. The
probable cause attached to the charge states as follows:
On
May 17th 2005 the victim referred to as Jane Doe, a juvenile female
client, age 17 at the Woodward Resource Center, Woodward Iowa, located in Boone
County Iowa, reported to staff that she had been sexually assaulted earlier in
the day. Jane Doe described the offender and has since identified the
defendant’s photo in a photo line up. A physical examination of the victim
established that she had suffered an injury consistent with her description of
the assault.
On June
1st, 2005 the defendant admitted to the undersigned that he had performed a

Scam
alert:
The
Boone County Sheriff’s Office received information form a Boone Resident who
had received information through the mail that indicated that they had won a
lottery drawing dated back in 2002 and that they had been attempting to locate
these people for payment of $250,830 along with seven other winners each warded
this amount. The local resident just put the letter off to the side and decided
to send it to the Attorney Generals Office.
A couple days later this same resident received another Letter along
with a Cashiers check in the amount of $7,760.00, the letter indicated that
this money was a percentage surcharge required to be paid, then to give your
account manager a call as soon as possible and they would assist in finalizing
the payment process, and a telephone number to call. The Sheriff’s Office then contacted the
Attorney Generals Office and the Secret Service. This is a scam to get your
account numbers. If you call the number on the Cashiers check someone will tell
you that this is a good cashiers check, but they are also part of the plot, as
this is not really a bank. The Cashiers
check that was brought to the Sheriff’s Office indicates that its from a City National
Bank out of Sherman Oaks California, The letter indicates that it’s a
lottery managed by Skylark Financial
Incorporated. These type of scams will change bank names. The bottom line don’t
trust mailings indicating you won money and you have to give out account
numbers, they should just send you a check for the full amount. This Boone
County Resident was smart and did not fall for the trap.
