7-01-06 5:32am Deputy Middleton responded to a single vehicle accident 3/4 mile east of AT&T Towers on E18. Vehicle a 1997 Chrysler sustained $5000.00 in damages. No driver was located at the scene. Registered owner Traci M. Wierson from Fort Dodge Iowa was not at scene, although she is wanted on a warrant out of Story County, investigation continuing. Vehicle was impounded.

7-02-06 5:42pm Deputy Rohden responded along with Madrid Fire to an a fire alarm sounding at the Iowa Arboretum. Was a false alarm.
7-02-06 6:22pm Deputy Rohden responded to a complaint of 40-50 head of cattle loose and onto roadway at 333rd and Deer. Owner of cattle Don Carhill was notified.
7-02-06 8:25pm Deputy Rohden responded to Beaver on a complaint of fireworks being shot off and causing a lot of noise and disturbances.
7-03-06 10:45pm Deputy Pontius responded to the area of the 400 block of Juniper Rd Pilot Mound, on a complaint of fireworks.
7-04-06 1:43am Deputy Pontius made a traffic stop at Meridian and 15th, Boone. Driver Daniel C. Weise 18 of Boone was arrested for .02 Violation, passenger Louie J. Leaf 18 was cited for possession of Alcohol under the legal age.
7-04-06 10:16am Deputy Dominick responded to the 2300 block of QW Lane, Madrid on a complaint that their mailbox had been vandalized, damages $100.00.
7-04-06 10:30pm Deputy Pontius responded to the Fraser Boat ramp on a complaint of fireworks being shot off in that area.
Boone County Sheriff's Detective Kenneth Kendall assisted the Dept of Criminal Investigations after they began investigating a Bank Robbery that had taken place in Joyce Iowa Wright County in March of 2005. The D.C.I. was looking for an individual with certain characteristics and liked to steal vehicles, Kendall gave them the name of a person who he thought fit what they were looking for , when they went to look for this person they were involved in a high speed chase where the suspect got away and was later located in Colorado. The suspect stole several vehicles as he fled Iowa to Colorado. Arrested in April 2005 was Jason N. Williamson 30 of Ames. Williamson was just sentenced for Bank Robbery and received 19 years in Federal Prison this past week.

7-5-06 10:02am Sgt Hurley responded to a residential alarm sounding at 2345 160thSt, Culligan man had made a delivery and set off alarm, everything checked out O.K.
7-5-06 11:54am The Office received a 911 call of a deer struck on 222nd Dr, Boone. Caller did not give name but wanted deer with two broken legs to be rehabilitated. Phone calls were made to the State Conservation Officers for this area, non of those officers were available. Due to the large number of deer struck on our county roadways it is virtually impossible to save them after they have received injuries from a motor vehicle collision. Most deer are killed from the impact and others are dispatched by the responding officer.
7-6-06 8:47am Sgt. Hurley responded to a complaint by a citizen of white powdery substance that had fallen from the Union Pacific Railroad High bridge onto the gravel Rd below. Haz-Mat was called and area secured until their arrival. Substance turned out to be a harmless soda ash.
7-6-06 10:13am Sgt Hurley responded to pick-up a witness to testify in criminal court hearing. Witness was unable to drive and Courts Ordered the Sheriff's Office to transport to 3rd floor of the Courthouse to testify.
7-07-06 12:11pm Sgt Hurley responded to a complaint of a Semi in the Ditch near the Old Ledges Manor, Driver had attempted to turn around at 22nd and Linn and went into the ditch. Dave's Towing out of Ames was called to Tow. No damages were reported.
7-07-06 5:32pm Deputy Rohden responded to a complaint that a parent had a child out of control and needed assistance in the 2000 block of Orange Lane Woodward.
7-08-06 3:08am Deputy Elsberry arrested a Dustin C. Pendarvis 19 of Boone on a Boone County warrant, bond $500.00.
7-08-06 3:13am Deputy Elsberry arrested a Robert Webb 40 of Boone on a Boone County Warrant, bond $250.00.
7-08-06 10:30pm Deputy Elsberry investigated a car deer accident in the 1100 block of 300th St, Woodward. Wayde A. Burkhart 44 of Woodward struck a deer causing several hundred dollars in damages to his 2004 Chevy Impala. No injuries were reported.
7-09-06 1:51am Deputy Elsberry responded to the Story County Line to pick-up a prisoner arrested by Ames P.D. on a Boone County Warrant. Transported to the Boone County Jail was Tristan V. Adams 44 of Des Moines, bond $500.00.
7-09-06 5:05am Deputy Middleton responded to a medical assist in the 1700 block of Magnolia Rd. Male individual was having chest pains and requested medical assistance. Boone Ambulance transported
7-09-06 11:26am Deputy Godzicki responded to a complaint of a vehicle onto its side in the area of 340 C Ave, Boone. No one was around the vehicle, owner was located and said that a deer ran out in front of him. Owner David Carlson 24 of Ogden was not injured, damages to his 1991 Chevy Pick-up were not estimated at this time.
7-09-06 12:04pm Deputy Godzicki responded to a truck fire on highway 30 near the Highway 17 exit. Driver was Danon B. Daleske 33 of Boone. No injuires were reported. Boone Fire responded.
7-09-06 3:39pm Boone County 911 received a call from a Brian Beatty of Ogden reporting that there is a possible drowning at the Des Moines River Boat Ramp by the water treatment plant. He informed dispatch that CPR was in progress. Deputy Godzicki responded along with Boone Ambulance. A female victim age 22 was taken to the Boone County Hospital and then airlifted by an Iowa City Air Ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. The Victim Megan E. Pavelick of West Des Moines had been tubing down the Des Moines River with two friends from Ames when they became caught in the current of the Dam near the Water Treatment plant. Megan was pulled form the River by a bystander John Blizzard 22 of Boone and CPR was administered by Arthur Chambers 37 of Boone and another unidentified male. At this time unknown medical condition of the victim and family had been notified. The Boone Water treatment plant is located Northwest of Boone on County Rd E26. Megan Pavelick age 22 was reported to have passed away overnight from complications due to the drowning incident.
7-10-06 6:51pm Deputy Pontius investigated a two vehicle accident 4 miles East of Boone at 30 and 17. Robert A. Jodeit 57 of Boone exited Highway 30 onto Highway 17 stopped at the stop sign and then proceeded to turn north and then stopped again, a second vehicle directly behind operated by Timothy Crouse 32 of Boone did not realize that Jodiet had stopped the second time before stricking him from the rear. Jodeit was transported to the Boone County Hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported. Damages were est. at $800.00 to Jodeit's 1996 Dodge, and $50.00 to Crouse's 2005 Chevy Van.
7-12-06 8:31am Detective Kendall began an investigation of the false use of financial instruments. Stolen checks were passed and cashed at the Boone Community Bank. Bank Officer has been able to identify offender. Investigation is continuing.
7-12-06 11:01am Sgt Hurley responded to the 1600 block of L Ave, Boone. Steve Banks reported that he ahd a bullet hole in the side of his pick-up , not sure if this occurred while Des Moines the night before or while parked in his driveway.
7-13-06 7:51am Sheriff Fehr arrested a Darin R. Zirfas 31 of Woodward on a Boone County warrant for contempt of court, bond $500.00. Arrest made at the Sheriff's Office after Ziraf turned himself in.
7-13-06 8:38am Sgt Hurley responded to a Semi--Bicycle accident at the intersection of County Rd R18 and 300th St. Walter [ Chuck ] Smeltzer 51 of Rural Woodward was operating a 1999 Sterling Truck Tractor with attached trailer, he was West bound and reportedly made a California stop at the stop sign, and proceeded West bound and did not see the Bicyclist who was north bound right in his path. Smeltzer struck the bicycle. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The State Patrol will complete the accident report. The bicyclist was not identified until around 3:20pm. Family has been notified with the help of the Madrid Police Dept. That person was identified as 51 year old William C. Perrier of Madrid. Also at the scene was the Woodward and Madrid Fire Dept, along with Ogden P.D. The Boone County Coroner was also at the scene.
7-13-06 11:56am Detective Kendall began an investigation of the theft of tools from a storage unit at the Westport Station in West Ames. $500.00 worth of tools was reported stolen. Phil Loney of Ames reported the theft.
7-15-06 10:30am Deputy Rohden and Naeve responded to a building collapse call to 2023 X Ave, Kelley, Eastern part of Boone County. Madrid and Woodward Rescue responded as well as a Boone County Ambulance. The building was a small shed approximately 24x24, and was being tore down by Charles Potter the owner and his son. the building fell onto his 17 year old son Ben and pinned him under some lumber from the roof.. Mercy Air transported the the 17 year old by Air to a Des Moines Hospital. After Ben was removed from the debris he was breathing on his own and speaking.
7-15-06 1:45pm Deputy Naeve responded to a complaint from Greene County that there was a vehicle reportedly headed into Boone County on Highway 30 and driver was acting like she was intoxicated. Deputy located the vehicle and stopped it in the 1300 block of Highway 30 Driver Michelle M. Ewoldt 41 of Breda Iowa was arrested for O.W.I. 1st.
7-15-06 3:53pm Deputy Rohden assisted a stalled motorist on the Erickson Curves on Highway 30 near United Community Schools.
7-15-06 4:07pm Deputy Naeve responded to a domestic situation in the 1500 block of B Ave, Ogden. Was a couple living together that could not get along due to one paying rent and the other not covering his share. Parties were seperated.
7-16-06 3:47pm Deputy Rohden responded to an alarm sounding at the Ogden High School, building was secure.
7-17-06 6:43am Sgt Hurley responded to a complaint of cattle running loose on the roadway at W Ave and 140th. Jim Turner owner arrived and rounded up the cattle.
7-18-06 2:12pm Sgt Hurley responded to a alarm sounding at the Boys and Girls home in West Ames, was a false alarm.
7-18-06 3:14pm Deputy Dominick responded to an alarm sounding at Mallon Excavating in the 2100 block of Y Ave Slater, was a false alarm.
7-18-06 6:44pm Deputy Domincik responded to a complaint that a woman had an out of control 8 year old kicking and fist fighting other kids, in the 600 block of 290th, Ogden. Kids involved were foster children and case worker was notified of incident.
7-19-06 12:36am Ames P.D. notified Boone County that they had information that the street racers were out and took off from the High School, suspected that they would be headed for the Napier Rd. Deputy Pontius located 21 individuals in the area. one person Logan Wirth 18 of Ames was cited for failure to display front plate, and the other persons were identified and told to leave the area.
7-19-06 8:24am Deputy Kendall responded to a two vehicle accident in a driveway at 1652 280th Madrid. Heather Morphew 23 of that address reported that a Walters Sanitation truck had backed into her vehicle in her driveway. No injuries were reported and damages were under $800.00.
7-19-06 10:00am Sheriff Fehr and Deputy Kendall executed a writ of ejectment at 310 3rd St. Beaver. The writ was completed by 2:00pm.
7-19-06 4:28pm Ogden Officer requested fire Dept from Ogden dispatched to Junk yard fire in the 600 block of 210th. Later an Ambulance and first responders were dispatched to scene at 5:24 for man down at same location. 2 men were transported to the Boone County Hospital. Dan Wilson 56 of Ogden and Joseph Schall 46 of Ogden, both firemen with Ogden Fire, were overcome by the heat.
7-19-06 8:15pm Deputy Elsberry arrested an Everett R. Graham 34 of Davis City Iowa on a Calhoun County warrant, arrest was made in the 800 block of College St, Boone. Warrant for violating a domestic abuse protection order.
7-20-06 11:00am Deputy Kendall investigated a two vehicle accident on old 30 3.8 miles east of Ogden. Annamae Reed 72 of Boone was east bound when she struck the county equipment that was on the roadway. Boone County equipment operated by Charles Swanson 62 of Boxholm was properly operating a Chevy K1500 Truck pulling a Roscoe Broom, with slow moving equipment signs on vehicle cleaning the roadside, when he was struck. Damages were est. at $4,000.00 to the County truck , and $4,000.00 to the County Broom, $6,000.00 to Reed's 1997 Chevy Lumina. No injuries were reported.
7-20-06 5:32pm Deputy Rohden investigated a single vehicle accident 1.5 miles West of Boone on 198th Rd and Mallard, NW of Boone. Travis M. Cooke 23 of Boone was southbound on Mallard when he entered a curve to fast and went into the ditch and roled his vehicle and struck a fence. Cooke was transported to the Boone County Hospital with injuries by Ambulance. Cooke's 1997 Dodge Intrepid received $5,000.00 in damages. Crooke was cited for no drivers lic. and failure to maintain control.
7-22-06 1:41am Deputy Pontius responded to a Domestic situation in Pilot Mound. Arrested for Domestic abuse assault was Brian J. Williams 18 of Pilot Mound, he was also charged with public intoxication and possession of alcohol under the legal age.
7-22-06 4:03pm Deputy Rohden responded to an alarm sounding at the Forage Genetics Office in the 1800 block of 195th St, Boone, was a false alarm.
7-22-06 4:49pm The Office took a report of a vehicle that had broken down on E26 between Y Ave and Highway 17. Owner Angela Lewis reported that she had ran out of gas and when returned someone had broken out side window and damaged items inside.
7-22-06 11:23pm Deputy Pontius responded to the Ledges State Park on a complaint of noise. Deputy located a Andrew Jones 19 of Marion Iowa, he was cited for possession of alcohol under the legal age.
7-24-06 2:30pm 2 teenage boys came into the Sheriff's Office to report harassment from some other teenagers they thought were from the Gilbert area, this all took place at the Boone County Fair grounds the night before, Boone P.D. was given the investigation to continue the investigation.
7-24-06 9:19pm Deputy Pontius investigated a car deer accident in the 1700 block of 220th. Driver Deborah A. Lindgren 39 of Ogden struck a deer causing $4,500.00 in damages to her 2005 Dodge. No injuries were reported.
7-24-06 11:26pm Deputy Pontius responded to an alarm at the Fareway Grocery store on Hawkeye drive in Boone, All Boone P.D. cars were busy with a personal injury accident. turned out to false alarm.
7-25-06 1:37am Deputy Pontius and Madrid Fire and Woodward fire all responded to a fire alarm sounding at Garst Seed west of Slater on Highway 210. Someone had accidentally pulled fire alarm, no fire.
7-25-06 2:11am Deputy Middleton found an open door at the Boxholm Co-op Manager was called to secure building.
7-25-06 7:39am Sgt Hurley responded to an alarm sounding at the Security Savings Bank in Boxholm, was a false alarm.
7-26-06 10:34am 911 Operators received a call from an individual who was receiving text messaging that a female was going to commit suicide, and indicated driving into the pillars at the Ledges State Park. Officers checked the Ledges and the female continued to text message, and phone company was able to pin point tower usage from the cellular phone. Female was located in Story County and Committed for mental evaluation. She was located at 1:12pm.
7-26-06 4:31pm Deputy Rohden responded to Pilot Mound on a complaint that an individual was violating a no contact order. Arrested fro Violation of a no contact order was Brian J. Williams 18 fo Pilot Mound.
7-26-06 7:08pm Deputy Rohden met a Polk County Deputy at the County line to pick-up a prisoner who was arrested on a Boone County Warrant in Des Moines. Arrested and taken to the Boone County Jail was Charles W. Privett 42 of Grimes, warrant was for Sex Offender registration violation, bond $5,000.00.
7-27-06 9:36am Deputy Dominick responded to Pilot Mound on a complaint of a resident burning in the city limits. Deputy Spoke to the resident and warned them to extinguish.
7-27-06 10:38am Deputy Dominick responded to Pilot Mound on a complaint of harassment between parties who live in Pilot Mound, Deputy spoke to both parties.
7-28-06 7:47am Deputy Dominick responded to Boxholm because an alarm was sounding at the Grand Community School. Key holder could not be located for sometime. Was a false alarm.
7-28-06 12:33pm Dennis Sutton of Rural Ogden came into the Sheriff's Office to report that he had 3 checks taken from him and now 2 have been cashed at local businesses totaling $48.00. the 3rd check has now had a stop payment placed on the account. Investigation continuing.
7-29-06 12:00am Deputy Elsberry assisted the Boone Police and search and rescue on a complaint that a 2 year old at 309 Carroll St, Boone was missing from the home. The parents had last observed the child watching T.V. after several searches around and inside the home, Deputy Elsberry again checked out the bedroom and located the 2 year old wrapped inside a comforter at the foot of the bed. Child was O.K.
7-29-06 10:18am Sgt. Hurley investigated a two vehicle accident 2 miles NW of Perry on 325th and C. David Dickson 29 of Grain Valley Mo. was west bound on 325th when he slowed to turn at C Ave and was struck from behind by another west bound vehicle operated by Devin L. Parker 18 of Panora Iowa. No injuries were reported. Damages were est. at $3,000.00 to Dickson's 2003 Saturn, and $500.00 to Parker's 1994 Ford Explorer.
7-30-06 4:04pm Deputy Pontius responded to a complaint of a fire and man down complaint in the area of 531 250th. Ogden fire responded and Ogden P.D. Brush fire out of control and extinguished by Fire Dept. Emory Gordon was airlifted to a Des Moines Hospital because of a possible heat stroke.
7-30-06 8:20pm Deputy Dominick and Ogden Fire responded to a house fire in Berkley, Rippey fire also dispatched. Owner of the Home Cythia Merchant, no one was injured.
7-30-06 8:35pm Deputy Pontius responded to an alarm sounding at the United Community School, was a false alarm.
7-30-06 8:56pm Deputy Pontius responded to a complaint of a trailer loaded with garbage dumped near 1298 122nd Boone. Investigation continuing.
7-31-06 7:50am Sgt. Hurley investigated a two vehicle accident 2.5 miles NE of Luther. Allen L. Ward 39 of Boone was south bound on T Ave. when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle operated by Kelsey H. Carney 17 of Ames. Carney was on 240th east bound. No injuries were reported. Ward was cited for failure to yield to vehicle on his right. Damages were est. at $500.00 to Ward's For F350 Pick-up, and $3,000.00 to Carney's 1993 Volvo. Also Ward's Trailer he was pulling received $4,000.00 in damages.
7-31-06 12:10pm Sgt Hurley responded to a medical assist to 1463 300th Woodward on complaint of 11 day old baby had stopped breathing. Woodward Fire and Boone County Ambulance at responded to the scene. Life flight was put on standby and later told to disregard, as baby was now breathing. Baby was taken by ambulance to the Dallas County Hospital.
7-31-06 8:34pm Deputy Rohden responded to Ames to pick-up a Boone County Prisoner arrested by Ames P.D. Transported to the Boone County Jail was Joshua Haggard 20 contempt of court bond $200.00.
