4-2-05             11:27pm  Deputy Kendall observed a 4 wheeler operating on a roadway in the 500 block of P Ave, Boone.   Deputy followed the 4 wheeler to a party at 454 P Ave. Tara L. Quade 20 of Story City and Steven Turner 19 of Boone were both charged with possession of Alcohol under the legal age. Turner was charged with a 3rd Offense violation.

 

4-03-05                     1:40am  Deputy Dominick stopped a vehicle at Highway 17 and E26. Driver checked out O.K. Passenger Katie Pithan 18 of Boone was charged with under age possession of alcohol.

 

4-03-05                     4:50am  Deputy Dominick responded to a complaint of a vehicle on its top at Magnolia and 300th. Driver Judy Donovan was west bound when she apparently lost control and drove into north ditch and rolled her 2003 Oldsmobile onto its top. Donovan reported no injuries. Damages were est at $5,000.00, Donovan was cited for failure to maintain control.

 

4-03-05                     6:12pm  Deputy Rohden responded to a complaint of an Anhydrous tank hidden behind some buildings in the 400 block of Lilac Lane, Boone.  Complainant was aware of an anhydrous tank that was stolen a few days ago from Van Diest.  The Anhydrous tank was the same one stolen earlier.  Tank was impounded for evidence.

 

4-04-05                     2:36am  Deputy Dominick responded to Boxholm on a compliant that a door was open and lights on to a business on 169.  Business was the toy store owned by Larry Krakau, someone had broken the door open, but nothing reported stolen at this time. Other businesses and School was checked and they all appeared to be secure.

 

4-04-05                     8:22am  Deputy Elsberry responded to a complaint of a single vehicle accident in the 2000 block of L Ave Woodward, James Vermett 32 of West Des Moines lost control and struck a utility pole at 2353 L Ave. No injuries were reported, damages were est  less than a $1000.00 to a 1987 Dodge Dakota Pick-up.

 

4-04-05                     10:55am  Deputy Elsberry responded to a two vehicle accident in 1400 block of 325th Woodward.  James Vermett 32 of West Des Moines struck another vehicle operated by Jeffrey Harrington 43 of Perry. No injuries were reported, Vermett’s 1987 Dodge Pick-up sustained additional damages from the previous accident, and Harrington’s 1998 Dodge pick-up received approximately $1,000.00 in damages.

 

4-04-05                     8:17pm  Deputy Kendall responded to a complaint of an offensive smelling fire in the 1500 block of X Ave, Ames, [ Napier Area ].  Paul Doaks had started a pile of dead of sheep on fire, Kelly Fire was dispatched to extinguish the fire.

 

4-05-05                     9:39pm  Steve McClain the Mayor of Fraser called to report that there had been graffiti painted on a building owned by the city and bridge over the Des Moines River. City was requesting extra patrol.

 

4-06-05                     8:28am  Sgt Hurley responded to a complaint of a child out of control at the Boys and Girls Home in West Ames. The 11 year old child Matthew Schultz was arrested for criminal mischief 5th degree, and interference with official acts. The Child was transported to Eldora.

 

4-06-05                     9:43am  Sheriff Fehr investigated a single vehicle accident 2.5 miles NW of Ames at the Intersection of X Ave and the Union Pacific Railroad trestle, north of old highway 30.  Lee Cochran 35 of West Des Moines was south bound pulling a trailer loaded with a John Deere Excavating machine, when he went under the trestle that had a height of 11’ 3” and his load exceeded that height and struck the bottom of the bridge and pulled the load off the trailer, causing the trailer hitch to bend and denting the back drivers fender of the pick-up pulling the trailer, damages were est at $18,000.00 to the John Deere equipment, $2,000.00 to the Trailer, and $500.00 to the 1994 Chevrolet Pick-up. No injuries were reported. The Union Pacific Railroad was contacted to check the structure of the trestle.

 

4-07-05                     7:50am  Deputy Hurley responded to a complaint that someone could see smoke coming from the Boxholm elevator. Turned out to be an anhydrous tank leaking. The tank had been tampered with overnight. Elevator did not have the tank locked, it was locked after the Deputy left the area.

 

4-07-05                     12:00pm  Deputy Hurley responded to a single vehicle accident 1.5 miles SE of Pilot Mound on I Ave.  Nicole A. Patten 23 of Pilot Mound was north bound on gravel, lost control and drove into the east ditch, causing both airbags to deploy. No injuries were reported, damages were est at $1,000.00 to her 1996 Chevy Cavalier. Nicole was cited for failure to maintain control.

 

4-07-05                     3:16pm  Deputy Rohden responded to a complaint at the Boys and Girls Home in West Ames.  Jessica Eakins 12 of McCallsburg a student at the facility was charged with simple assault on an instructor at the School.

 

4-07-05                     8:25pm  Deputy Kendall responded to a complaint of fire that observed in the 600 block of F Ave. Turned out to be a controlled burn by Craig Ott of Rural Ogden.

 

4-07-05          11:03pm  Deputy Middleton and Dominick responded to the Lower Ledges on a compliant by the Park Officer that their were several under age individuals consuming alcohol on the State Property.  Charged were the following.      Cody Sinclair 19 of Indianola, Jeni Thompson 18 of Park River N.D., Bradley Bjerke 19 of Lacrescent MN., Neil Nerem 19 of Boone, Jessica Wolfswinkle 19 of Pella, Garrett Loman 19 of Stillwater MN. Derek Mason 20 of Boone,  Matthew Larson 19 of Boone, and Eric Belter 19 of Boone.

4-08-05          1:35pm  Deputy Kendall and Rohden responded to a personal injury accident on highway 30 at the Greene/Boone County line in the construction zone.  Pilot Vehicle had vehicles stopped in the west bound lanes, a vehicle coming from the west ran into one of the stopped vehicles waiting to move forward. One person was air lifted to a Des Moines Hospital. Tow others were transported by Boone Ambulance to the Boone County Hospital. State Patrol will complete the accident report.

4-09-05          6:24pm Deputy Rohden responded to a Domestic call at 401 Mayapple Lane, North of Boone, Arrested for Domestic assault was Allen York 33 of that address, he was also charged with Obstructing an emergency call.

 

4-09-05.1  11:31am  Deputy Elsberry responded to a complaint of cones and barrels in the roadway and ditches west of Highway 169 south on highway 30 in the construction zone. D.O.T. and contractors were informed so they could reset there safety equipment.

 

4-10-05                     12:05am  Deputy Kendall and Pontius responded to the Boxholm area to check out a possible party that was called in. Area was checked out and two individuals under the legal age were cited for possession of alcohol. Those two were Brian Williams 17 of Pilot Mound and Branson Hickle 20 of Boone.

4-10-05                     10:00pm  Deputy Pontius began an investigation of vandalism to a vehicle at 2349 320th Street, Madrid. Pam Aldrich of Huxley reported that someone had walked over the hood and roof of her car causing damages to her 1997 Ford Taurus.

 

4-11-05                     Deputy Rohden cited a Sterling Heiner for unlawful passing of a school bus, Heiner had passed a United Community School on E26 between R and S Ave while the bus was stopped to drop off a child at 4:00pm 4-1-05.

4-11-05                     3:54pm  Deputy Moore cleaned up remnants of a meth lab that were discovered by a property owner who was mowing a roadside ditch in the 1000 block of L Ave, Boone.

4-11-05                     6:42pm  Deputy Elsberry responded to a complaint of a vehicle in the ditch, median area of highway 30 approx. 1 mile East of Boone. No damages were reported to the vehicle. Driver was John Booth 20 of Boone, he reported no injuries, his vehicle had hydroplaned and went into the ditch.

4-13-05                     12:13am  Deputy Rohden responded to a call of a vehicle all over the roadway on Highway 17 between Madrid and Luther. Vehicle was stopped on Mamie in Boone by Boone Officers. The driver was just tired.

4-13-05                     6:40am  Deputy Hurley investigated a pick-up deer accident at the bottom of old 30 hill West of Boone.  Driver Linda Stoner 44 of Ogden struck a deer causing $1000.00 in damages to her 1998 Dodge Pick-up. No injuries were reported.

4-13-05                     9:25am Deputy Hurley responded to an ambulance assist in the 1900 block of 250th Boone. 23 year old male was having chest pains and was transported by ambulance to the Boone County Hospital.

4-14-05                     4:49pm  Deputy Moore and Kendall were out a 2115 Benton Street, Boone and confronted a woman by the name of Stefanie Woods and was also known as Stefanie Deibler 32 of Webster City she was wanted on a warrant out of Sac County. She was also wanted on a warrant out of Hamilton County, Bond $20,000.00.

 

4-14-06                     6:37pm  Sgt Moore and Deputies Kendall and Rohden responded to a complaint by a property owner of 2283 A Ave, Perry, that was was now at that location and renters had a grow operation and wanted officers. When Deputies arrived they observed a marijuana grow operation with 38 plants and 33.9 grams of processed marijuana. Arrested was Terry L. Long 33 of Fort Dodge who was living at this address. He was charged with Manufacturing controlled substance [ marijuana], and Tax stamp violation. Investigation continuing.

 

4-14-07                     8:22pm  Deputy Kendall and Dominick responded to a Domestic situation in Boxholm, was a dispute between married couple but no physical contact, no arrests made, couple separated for the evening. Responded to West Side apartments.

4-15-05                     2:57am  Deputy Dominick responded to a complaint by Fareway employee’s at the Fareway warehouse that they had discovered transients in a trailer on their property, Fareway did not want charges filed, just to have the two transients removed. They were taken to the Southern County Line as they wanted to go to Des Moines.

4-15-05                     8:20am  Deputy Elsberry responded to the Big Eddie area on 155th East of Fraser, on a complaint of an unresponsive male. Turned out to be a 56 year old man from Rural Ames who had gone Turkey Hunting and when returning to his vehicle along the roadway was changing out of hunting clothes and had heart attack. Individual was Discovered by passer bys. Coroner was called to the scene where he was pronounced dead. Boone Fire and Ambulance were at the scene.

4-15-05                     10:25am  Deputy Elsberry responded to a complaint of garbage dumped along the roadway in the 2000 block of L Ave. Garbage was cleaned up and Deputy is looking inot who dumped with evidence collected at the scene.

4-15-05                     10:32am  The Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from the D.O.T. that they have had to clean spilled corn on the roadway at Highway 17 and 30 4 times this past week, and that West Central Co-op was responsible.  Deputy Moore spoke to West Central about filling there equipment too full, they said that they would take care of the problem.

4-15-05                     11:51am  Deputy Elsberry responded to a complaint by a University of Iowa Transport van that was having problems with a patient that was on there way to the Stratford Nursing Home. Van was stopped with combative patient and requested assistance on highway 17 and 170th, Boone.

4-15-05                     9:10pm  Deputy Rohden investigated a two vehicle accident 2.5 miles South of Boone on 250th.  Rachel M. Thompson 16 of Ames was braking rapidly to prevent hitting a deer and was struck from behind by Katie L. Lundstrom 16 of Ames. No injuries were reported, damages were est at $5,000.00 to Lundstrom’s 1999 Chrysler, and no damages to Thompson’s 1997 Jeep.

4-16-05                     1:14am  Deputy Pontius was assisting the Ledges Park Officer with Alcohol violations.  Deputy cited a Steffan M. Morrison 20 of Des Moines for Possession of Alcohol under the legal age, Park Officer also cited one individual name unknown.

4-16-05                     8:46pm  Deputy Pontius and Kendall responded to Madrid on a complaint of a man with a gun at BJ’S Bar on Highway 17. Madrid P.D. was at the scene. Turned out there was no gun. Man 44 of Ames was on some type of drug most likely meth and was committed to Knoxville for treatment.

4-16-05                     10:16pm  Jailer Stahr responded to Taylor County to pick-up a prisoner Jack Pyle 56 of Allerton Iowa wanted on a Boone County Warrant. Pyle was transported to the Boone County Jail. Warrant for violation of no contact order and harassment 2nd degree, no bond.

4-16-05                     11:04pm  Deputy Dominick responded to a complaint that an individual in the 1600 block of 316th was confronting some people who were at the Delander Cemetary near Madrid.  Deputy arrested one of the individuals a Leanna L. Haidsiak 28 of Madrid for Possession of Marijuana.

4-17-05                     1:38am  Deputy Kendall and Pontius responded to a complaint of party that was going on at 2349 320th, Madrid. Report that an individual had been struck in the head with a baseball bat was taken to an emergency room. Investigation continuing as to who hit the victim, but no baseball bat was used, it was a fist to the eye area which required stitches.  Also at this party Alex L. Eklund 20 of Madrid and Emmett Williams 20 of Huxley were both charged with under age possession of alcohol.

4-17-05                     1:36pm  Deputy Hurley responded to a compliant of a dog that had attacked a horse in the 800 block of 310th, Ogden.  Connie Heinkel reported that while she was riding her horse and cart a dog belonging to Neighbor Gale Phillips ran out and bite her horse in the neck area, causing horse to bolt and tip cart over injuring Heinkel and the horse.

4-17-05                     2:03pm  Deputy Hurley responded to the Ledges Stat Park Canyon drive area.  There was a report of a young man driving recklessly through the water and lost control, almost hitting a 7 year old girl playing in the water. Cited for Reckless driving was Joshua A. Springer 18 of Boone.

4-18-05                     4:12pm  Deputy Moore arrested a Francisco J. Mora 56 of Ogden on a Story County Warrant, Mora was arrested at his residence in Ogden and transported to the Story County Line.

4-18-05                     4:54pm  Deputy Elsberry investigated a two vehicle accident 2 miles East of Beaver on highway 30 in the Construction site.  Karen Plath 21 of LeMars Iowa was east bound and struck a vehicle in front of her that was stopped for work zone. The stopped vehicle was operated by Brent F. Aden 43 of Pomeroy Iowa.  Injured was Karen Plath she was taken by ambulance th the Boone County Hospital. Damages were est at $12,000.00 to Aden’s 2003 Chrysler, and $5,000.00 to Plath’s 1998 Honda. Plath was cited for Failure to stop within assured clear distance.

4-1905                       2:40pm  Deputy Rohden responded to a complaint of a child with her lab puppies had spooked a horse and colt in the 2000 block of Unicorn Ave, Madrid.  Parents of the child were talked to. The concern was that the horse was protecting her colt and that the child and dogs could be in harms way if they got to close especially without any parents and owner of the horses around.

4-19-05                     4:37pm  Deputy Rohden responded to a domestic situation in the 6100 block of West Lincoln way Ames.  Deputy spoke to both parties was just a verbal argument at this point, no arrests made.

4-20-05                     1:57pm  Hancock County arrested a Johnathon W. Bailey 18 of Britt Iowa on a Boone County Warrant for reckless use of fire, bond $7,000.00.

4-20-05                     8:15pm  Deputy Dominick responded to a domestic situation in the parking lot of the Broiler Restaurant in West Ames. Was a couple arguing over a vehicle as a result of a divorce. Deputy explained that it was civil matter, no arrests made.

4-21-05                     6:00am  Bonding company returned a prisoner Larry Morgan who was out on bond and a new warrant was issued with a $10,000.00 bond. Larry Morgan 21 of Des Moines.

4-21-05                     7:13am  Jeffrey Leach 44 of Ames turned himself into the Sheriff Office Jail, as there were tow warrants for him, for failure to appear and and failure to complete batters program, Bond $1,500.00 for both.

4-21-05                     5:19pm  Deputy Rohden responded to a complaint of trespassers on property in the 1200 block of Quill Ave, Boone. Individuals were looking  for mushrooms. Deputy spoke to both parties and ordered individuals off the property.

4-22-05                     12:46pm  Deputy Ellison investigated a single vehicle accident at 198th Rd, and McCall St, Logansport area.  Matthew Risberg 19 of Rural Boone was driving east on 198th when his right front tire slipped onto the soft shoulder and then over reacted and going across the roadway and struck a mailbox. Damages were est at $500.00 to Risberg’s 2004 Chevy. No injuries were reported. Mail box owned by Bob Collins.

4-23-05                     11:10am  Deputy Hurley investigated a two vehicle accident 2 miles West of Boone at 220th and L Ave.  Heather Schulte 29 of Lidderdale Iowa was west bound on 220th when another vehicle operated by Michael Jacobson 27 of Ogden was north bound on L Ave and failed to yield into the path of the Schulte vehicle, and was struck in the passenger doors knocking the vehicle into a ditch and rolling it. Jacobson was taken by Boone County Ambulance to the Boone County Hospital and a passenger in the Schulte vehicle 6 year old Brennan Schulte was taken by Ambulance to the Boone County Hospital. Damages were est at $11,000.00 to Schulte’s 2001 Dodge, and $500.00 to Jacobson’s 1986 Ford Pick-up. Jacobson was cited for failure to yield.

4-23-05                     5:58pm  Deputy Ellison assisted a Madrid Officer with a family disturbance call to the 300 block of West 2nd Madrid.  A female juvenile had locked herself in a room and was semi conscience and was threatening to blow up a home-made bomb. Juvenile was taken  custody for medical reasons, and no bomb was located.

4-24-05                     7:18am  Deputy Hurley investigated a complaint that a 17 year old had stolen his parents vehicle .  Charges will be filed for Operating a motor vehicle without owners consent on Logan E. Moss 17 of Rural Boone.

 

4-24-06                     3:16am  Deputy Kendall responded to the Woodward Resource Center on a complaint that a cab driver from Des Moines had a drunk passenger and could not locate where he lived near Woodward, After Deputy ran information on the passenger it was discovered that he lived in the 1900 block of Olive Place, cab driver wanted officer to follow so he could get paid.

4-24-05          9:47am   Deputy Hurley responded to a complaint of boat fire at highway 17 and 30. A boat on trailer had started on fire. The 16 foot fiberglass boat and 60 horse power motor were lost in the blaze. Boone Fire responded. 

4-24-05          5:06pm  Deputy Naeve responded to a single vehicle accident at 216th and L Ave. Thomas Sloan 36 of Jefferson Iowa was west bound going to fast for the turn onto L Ave and lost control of his motorcycle and slid into a ditch.  Sloan was injured and was treated at the Boone County Hospital. Sloan was arrested for O.W.I.  His 2003 Harley received $1000.00 in damages.

4-24-05          9:45pm  Deputy Rohden investigated a single vehicle accident 3 miles West of Boone on 30.  Kalynn M. Wenck 40 of Norwalk Iowa was east bound when she struck a deer, causing $1,500.00 in damages to her 1999 Honda Civic. No injuries were reported.

4-25-05          7:21am  Deputy Hurley investigated a two vehicle accident 3 miles South of Luther on highway 17.  Andrew T. Wiskus 16 of Madrid was stopped at stop sign and then pulled onto the roadway in the path of a north bound Semi, operated by Ezekial A. Eggers 31 of Carlisle Iowa. Damages were est at $3,800.00 to Wiskus’ 2001 Ford Focus, and $1,000.00 to Egger’s 1999 Freightliner. No injuries were reported. Wiskus was cited for failure to yield.

4-25-05          8:59pm  Deputy Dominick responded to the 1300 block of 274th Lane area on a complaint of gun shots heard in the woods, Deputy checked area and was unable to locate anyone.

4-25-05          5:00pm  Ames P.D. has located a reported stolen vehicle from Boone County at Chamberlain and Hayward Streets in Ames.  The vehicle was taken from a family member, Individual wanted on charges for operating without owners consent was not present.

4-26-05          2:12am  Deputy Middleton investigated a car deer accident in the 1100 block of 220th. William Olesen 38 of Ogden struck a deer causing $1,500.00 in damages to his 1997 Dodge. No injuries were reported.

4-26-05          8:24am  Deputy Hurley responded to Pilot Mound on a complaint of a disturbance between a mother and her 13 year old daughter. Deputy spoke to both and got them to make peace for now.

4-26-05          4:02pm  Deputy Moore arrested a Kyle Ferguson 22 and Brooke Blackburn 20 both of Boone for warrants for possession of marijuana and meth. Bond $4,000.00 each.

4-26-05          8:21pm Deputy Dominick responded to a complaint of trespassers in the 1000 block of 105th St, Stratford. Trespassers were looking ofr mushrooms and ordered off the property.

4-27-05          7:30am  Deputy Elsberry and Mitchell responded to a School bus- car accident at the intersection B Ave and 250th 4 miles SW of Ogden.  Kyle R. DeMoss 16 of Rippey Iowa was East bound on 250th and went through a stop sign and struck a south bound Ogden Community School Bus operated by Kenneth E. Peterson 71 of Ogden.  DeMoss was taken by Boone County Ambulance to the Boone County Hospital for minor injures.  The Bus was tipped onto its side and three students were taken by Ambulance to the Boone County Hospital for treatment of injuries. Those students names were David Smothers 4th grader, Dravin Williamson 1st grader, and Chelsea Grant in the 8th grade. All 3 students from the Beaver area. DeMoss was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign. Damages were est at $2,500.00 in damages to DeMoss’s 1990 Chevy Blazer, and $54,000.00 to a 2005 International School bus,owned by Stumbo Tranpsortation of Ogden.

4-27-05          4:15pm  Deputy Rohden responded to a complaint of a break-in to a home in the 1400 block of 120th St, Boone.  The home and a shed had been broken into taken was a stereo CD player, a 22 caliber rifle and another firearm with scope. Investigation continuing.

4-27-05          8:18pm  Deputy Rohden responded to a complaint of an ATV that was almost hit by another vehicle on the roadway on Juniper Rd.  Deputy spoke to suspects parents about the incident.

4-28-05          1:28pm  Deputy Elsberry made a traffic stop at 2nd and Marshall Boone. Driver Mitch Simpson 24 of Boone was arrested on a warrant ofr non payment of child support, and owner of the vehicle Elizabeth Litzel 20 of Ames was cited for non registered vehicle.

4-29-05          5:19pm  Deputy Elsberry arrested a Brian E. Anderson 34 of Boone for Driving while revoked and no SR Insurance. Traffic stop was in the 300 block of Story St. Boone.

4-29-05          7:28pm  Jailer responded to Buchanan County to pick-up a prisoner Tracy W. Hocken 25 of Independence Iowa for pretrial violation, bond $20,000.00.

4-30-05          9:46am  Deputy Hurley responded to the 500 block of South Pilot, Pilot Mound, mail box had been vandalized, also several county signs were knocked over in the area as well.

4-30-05          10:00am  Deputy Hurley responded to a two vehicle accident 4 miles North of Ogden on H Ave and 170th.  Richard L. Ades 87 of Boone was west bound had gone around a county vehicle that was repairing a sign, stopped at the stop sign and proceeded to turn right into the side of a north bound vehicle operated by Donald Ewing 65 of New Virginia Iowa. Ades struck the trailer that Ewing was pulling, causing $3,500.00 in damages to Ades’ 1999 Ford F150 Pick-up, and $500.00 to Ewings Trailer.  Both drivers refused medical treatment.
